Charlize Theron was born on August 7, 1975 in Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa. She is best-known for her portrayal as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the film Monster which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress.

She grew up on her parents’ farm near Johannesburg, and attended Putfontein Primary School (Laerskool Putfontein). At the age of thirteen, Theron was sent to boarding school and began her studies at the National School Of The Arts in Johannesburg. At fifteen, she witnessed the death of her father, an abusive alcoholic; Gerda (her mother) shot him in self-defense when he attacked her.


At the age of 16 she took an offer to begin modeling in Milan, Italy, but on the last day of shooting under her current contract in New York City, she decided she wouldn’t return to Milan. Instead she began dancing with the Joffrey school in New York, returning to her first love. At 18, she suffered a ballet ending injury. And her career ended in this field.

Just in that field luckily. She bought a ticket to Hollywood and grabbed a role in “2 Days In the Valley.” She’s slowly battled her way up through Hollywood ranks to the title of “starring actress” with roles in “The Cider House Rules”, “The Astronaut’s Wife”, “Mighty Joe Young”, and many more.
